In year 2020, it will be exactly 115 years since Bertha von Suttner became the first woman to win a Nobel Peace Prize, 105 years since Women from the U.S. and Europe gather in The Hague in the Netherlands for the first International Congress of Women — later known as the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom and 100 years since married women were finally liberated from the guardianship of their spouses and granted legal majority in Sweden.

Therefore, Kolnoa (Bio) brings the topic of women in Israeli Cinema in the first half of the year. The third movie that will be shown is Close to Home.

Close to Home (2005, 90 minutes, Israel, Hebrew, with English subtitles)

Close to Home (Karov la bayit) is a 2005 Israeli movie directed by Dalia Hager and Vidi Bilu, and starring Smadar Sayar and Naama Schedar. It is the first film about the experience of female soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces. Smadar (Sayar) and Mirit (Schendar), both 18 years old, are assigned to patrol the streets of Jerusalem together as part of their military service. Worlds apart in their personality, their initial frosty relationship becomes a friendship as they deal with their own emotional issues, the crushes and break-ups in their love lives, as well as the political realities of the city in which they live.
