Jewish Heroines

Discover Jewish Heroines

“Paideia has been instrumental in shaping my pluralistic perspective on the Jewish world and beyond. Its open and knowledge-based environment has inspired me and given me the confidence to become a co-creator and contributor to contemporary Jewish life, for which I am deeply grateful.”
Anneli Rådestad

SWEDEN The new Swedish book Jewish Heroines (Judiska hjältinnor) by Paideia alumna Anneli Rådestad and her co-authors Joanna Rubin Dranger and Karin Brygger portrays one hundred Jewish heroines from biblical times to present day. Alongside Joanna Rubin Dranger’s colorful illustrations, we read about well-known names like Anne Frank and Golda Meir and discover new ones, like the Swedish-German painter Lotte Laserstein and the Polish ballerina and resistance fighter Franciszka Mann. Paideia’s founding director, Barbara Lerner Spectre, is one of the Jewish heroines, too! The book shows the enormously wide range of Jewish identity and female courage and creation and is inspirational for readers of all ages. It is currently available in Swedish, and its production was supported by Paideia.
