Paideia co-facilitated a roundtable conversation held in Stockholm by the European Association for the Preservation and Promotion of Jewish Culture and Heritage (AEPJ), with leading Swedish institutions, NGOs, government agencies, and cultural actors committed to promoting Jewish heritage. Victor Sorenssen, AEPJ’s director and Paideia alumnus, highlighted that there are many fields of potential future collaborations between AEPJ and Swedish institutions, particularly within the framework of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, the European Route of Jewish Heritage being one of them.
The program recognizes and supports transnational heritage networks that embody the values of human rights, cultural diversity, intercultural dialogue, and the idea of a shared European memory. Sorenssen points out that in this context, he sees a lot of opportunities to bring Swedish initiatives and projects more visibly into the European sphere. He stresses that the work already being done in Sweden to promote Jewish culture and heritage is impressive, and that AEPJ is looking forward to supporting ways to connect this work with the broader European network.
