Haim Weiss is a Professor of Rabbinic literature at the department of Hebrew literature at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. In late antiquity in general and in Rabbinic culture in particular the concepts of “border” and “border crossing” are very illusive and flexible. In this course we will try to get familiar with Rabbinic culture and literature by examining different kinds of borders: Familial, religious and cultural. Every class session will involve study of relevant primary sources mainly from the Babylonian Talmud and the discussion will revolve around those sources.
